L-com has added two Gigabit Ethernet switches to its lineup of commercial Ethernet products. The new products are offered at very competitive prices, announced the company.
This is the first time L-com has released a commercial switch for this application, though they have carried industrial-grade Ethernet switches since 2011. As LANs evolve from 10/100 to 10/100/1000 Base-T and are able to handle up to 1 Gbps speeds, network components including switches for the higher speeds are in increasingly high demand. With the 5-port and 8-port options priced at around US$35 and US$45, respectively, the switches are positioned as a price-sensitive option for basic Ethernet connectivity.

"There is a great need for networking devices that are compliant with Gigabit networks," comments Manuel Martinez III, product manager for L-Com. "I'm happy that we're able to support this with high-quality products at budget-friendly prices."
The new switches come support auto-negotiation, auto-MDI/MDIX function, and support for up to 8k absolute MAC addresses. Datasheets and user manuals are available for free download from L-com's website.
