Online videos earn BICSI continuing education credits

Dec. 8, 2011
The one-hour videos on fiber-optic technology from Omnitron Systems Technology can earn viewers 1 CEC for BICSI's professional designations.

Omnitron Systems Technology recently announced that BICSI has approved the company as a continuing education credit provider. Omnitron has produced online videos that provide viewers with continuing education credits (CECs) toward professional designations offered by BICSI. The three videos currently approved for credentials are titled "Extending Distances to PoE Devices," "Increasing Fiber Capacity with CWDM" and "The Media Converter: Swiss Army Knife of Fiber Connectivity."

The videos can be viewed free of charge. Each one provides one CEC for BICSI's Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), Electronic Safety and Security (ESS) Designer, Network Technology Systems (NTS) Designer, Outside Plant (OSP) Designer, Installer 2 Copper/Fiber, Technician, and Certified Trainer designations. The videos are also approved for BICSI's new Registered Information Technology Professional (RITP) and Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC) credentials.

"These videos are designed to enable continuing training on the latest network technologies for busy cabling professionals who may not have time to attend a scheduled class or webinar," said Ty Estes, Omnitron's marketing director. "Our goal is to provide an easy method to earn BICSI credits at any time, and from any location with Internet access." A CEC is earned by viewing a 60-minute video and completing a brief multiple-choice test form. Upon receipt of the online form, Omnitron emails a BICSI CEC certificate within two business days.

BICSI established its credential programs to provide a level of assurance to the industry and to consumers that an individual has knowledge in a designated area of information technology systems (ITS) design or installation.
