L-com recently launched two new models of its ELP Series Cat5 lightning and surge protectors. Meant for use with 10/100 Base-T Ethernet networks, the company says these new "economy series" products protect valuable connected equipment from lightning, static discharge, and faulty wiring.
According to L-com, the ELP-CAT5 model is designed to easily connect virtually anywhere. The ELPD-CAT5 model is specifically designed for DIN applications, with a mounting clip located on the rear of the unit that allows it to be mounted to standard DIN 3 rails. For multiple DIN protector installations, 3, 5 and 10 position busbars are available to combine all the protector grounds together.

The new Cat5 protectors easily connect in-line with existing data connections and feature rugged aluminum housings for maximum durability. Both models include a small Cat 5 jumper cable, so no additional cables are needed when used with existing data lines.
According to the company, additional features of both the ELP-CAT5 and ELPD-CAT5 models include good discharge capacity, low voltage protection, quick response, high transmission rates, and low signal attenuation.
"When considering the high cost of replacing damaged equipment and the resulting lost productivity, the cost of an in-line suppressor is really quite small," notes Ken Burgner, product manager for L-com.
