Cable-adapter combo enables voice, data, cable TV and power over single medium

Datwyler’s Category 7A cables support both differential-mode and common-mode transmission, and its RJ45-IEC adapter connects to TV sets.
Dual-mode Category 7Acables and an RJ45-IEC adapter, all available from Datwyler, form a media solution that enables a single medium to deliver voice and data transmission as digital-television signals and power to the end devices. Datwyler describes its cables and adapter as “a solution which fits the bill, giving the user the ultimate in flexibility and at the same time saving money and resources.”
The company says that its Category 7A cables allow both differential mode and common mode transmission. Differential mode is symmetrical signal transmission (generally characterized by balanced twisted-pair cabling), and common mode is unbalanced transmission (generally characterized by coaxial cabling). According to the company, its Category 7A cables’ ability to support both differentiates them from most commercially available twisted-pair options. “These dual-mode cables therefore really are universally suitable for transmitting speech, for the transmission of data at a rate of up to 10 Gbits per second, of BC signals for digital cable TV up to 862 Megahertz and, not least, for the remote supply of power to end devices,” Datwyler said.
“In addition to the dual-mode cables, shielded modules of at least Category 6A and Datwyler’s new RJ45-IEC adapter are needed to allow the use of a single standard cabling system for every type of transmission and service including cable television,” the company continued. “One of these adapters takes care of the supply of coaxial services to the data network at the patch panel; the other is plugged into the data socket to allow TV sets to be connected. The adapter transmits using common mode and provides an IEC connector as the usual physical interface.”
