May 27, 2009 -- The company says cabling options for 10GBase-T support include Category 6A, 6, and 5e.

May 27, 2009 -- Arista Networks recently announced what is describes as the industry's highest-density 10GBase-T switches in a 1U form factor. Of particular interest to cabling professionals, the company says the 7100T product line supports 10GBase-T up to 100 meters over Category 6A cabling and up to 55 meters over Category 5e and 6 cabling.

"As customers consolidate servers across their data center, the demand for networking bandwidth grows tremendously," stated Andy Becholsheim, chief development officer for Arista. "The new high-density 7100 Series 10GBase-T switches are ideal for server connections since they enable a seamless transition from 1 to 10 Gigabit Ethernet without requiring new cabling."

The Arista 7100T layer 2/3 switches include 24- and 48-port models. Each model offers autonegotiating 1/10GBase-T ports with standard RJ-45 connectors and SFP+ uplink ports.

"Arista Networks has the only switch on the market today with 48, 10-GbE ports in a 1RU form factor in their 7100T switch; it's an unparalleled 10-GbE port density," said Michael Howard, principal analyst with Infonetics Research. "Because their 10GBase-T switches fit into existing cabling schemes, their data center customers can easily upgrade their networks to support virtualization, iSCSI, and converged business applications over standard Ethernet as they move their server connections to 10-GbE."
