Shuttered adapters prevent ferrule damage, maintain eye safety

Feb. 9, 2011
The LC and SC adapters are fully automatic, providing necessary eye safety without the need for manual intervention.

Alliance Fiber Optics Products (AFOP) has released a series of fiber-optic LC and SC internal-shutter adapters. Each unit has a retractable shutter inside the adapter body, which is only actuated by inserting the LC or SC connector ferrule into the adapter. According to AFOP, the design prevents endface damage of the connector ferrule. Additionally, the company says, the shutters are automatic to provide necessary eye safety from potentially harmful light without any additional manual intervention.

The adapters are available in LC duplex/quad and SC simplex/duplex designs, and with zirconia or phosphor-bronze alignment sleeves in flange or flangeless body types.
