RETN Finishes Pan-Eurasian 400GbE Coherent Pluggable Optics Deployment
RETN announced the completion of deploying 400GbE coherent pluggable optics across the company’s whole Pan-Eurasian IP network. The deployment’s completion marks “one of the most extensive and eco-conscious IP-over-DWDM (IPoDWDM) deployments in production today”.
The company states that the rollout puts RETN at the head of energy-efficient, high-performance networking and shows the company’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure growth. When compared to limited-scope trials, this deployment spans backbone links anywhere from 300 to 950 kilometers and utilizes hundreds of 400G pluggables, all of which are fully operational, stable, and live in production.
According to Cignal AI, 700,000 coherent pluggable ports will be deployed worldwide by 2027, with RETN implementing 400G technology. It’s clear the company is aligning with this projection. RETN notes that “what sets it apart is its early large-scale deployment for high-performance networking while setting new benchmarks for sustainability”. This includes 40% power savings, 55% lower carbon footprint, and 15% reduction in space needs. In the present, RETN’s network delivers more than 75 Tbit of connectivity to its partners and customers, with plans for the company to be able to deliver over 100 Tbit in the near future with the newly deployed 400G pluggables.
Tony O’Sullivan, CEO of RETN, stated, “As demand for high-speed, reliable connectivity continues to grow, RETN remains dedicated to delivering next-generation infrastructure that empowers enterprises, hyperscalers, and carriers worldwide. Our widespread rollout of 400G services, powered by Juniper’s latest routing platforms, positions us at the forefront of ultra-high-capacity, sustainable networking. We're also actively evaluating 800G technology to ensure our network remains future-ready.”
