Everstream to expand Columbus, OH fiber infrastructure

Sept. 4, 2019
Everstream expects to begin lighting fiber in Columbus this month, as it connects the city to its business fiber network.

By STEPHEN HARDY, Lightwave -- Fiber-optic business network services provider Everstream has added Columbus, OH, to its fiber network footprint. The company says it has completed installation of an initial 80-mile fiber ring throughout the city.

Everstream expects to begin lighting fiber in Columbus this month, as well as expand its fiber infrastructure in the city to more than 580 miles as part of an overall investment of $24 million in the area.

The new fiber ring runs along the 1-270 corridor and passes through downtown Columbus via North High Street. It connects to three data centers in Columbus and, via the rest of Everstream’s infrastructure to another 36 Midwestern data centers.

To help market, operate, and maintain the network, Everstream says it has opened an office downtown with 21 employees. Everstream says it will offer high-speed, low-latency connections that will accommodate converged internet, voice, and data services at up to 100 Gbps.

“We’re excited about this expansion in our home state of Ohio because businesses in Columbus now have another option for connectivity. As our high-capacity fiber network is built from the ground up for businesses requiring reliability, speed, and scale, we offer high performance and redundancy with room to grow,” said Everstream President and CEO Brett Lindsey.

Lindsey added, “Additionally, customers with enterprise-level network requirements driven by cloud computing, digital transformation, and multiple locations will be able to directly access our more than 10,000 miles of fiber and connections to dozens of data centers throughout our six-state footprint.”

The move into Columbus is part of Everstream’s initiative to expand its operations in the Midwest. The company says it is on pace to reach 15,000 miles of fiber network, reaching more than 3,000 on-net buildings in 12 markets, by the end of next year.
