NTT to construct data center campus in Hillsboro, OR

Feb. 24, 2020
The service provider says the new campus will eventually comprise five data center facilities with a combined 144 MW of critical IT load.

NTT Ltd. recently announced it will build a new data center campus for its Global Data Centers division on 47 acres located in Hillsboro, OR. The service provider expects the campus will eventually comprise five data center facilities with a combined 144 MW of critical IT load. The five buildings will offer a total of 1 million square feet of space.

The first 6 MW of critical IT load will be available by the middle of this year, NTT expects. Portland General Electric (PGE) will supply power to the campus, which will connect directly to a fiber ring that will provide access to major local data centers, businesses, and cable landing sites.

NTT says it plans to design the data centers with customizable high-density vaults to support both single-user and colocation requirements of hyperscale cloud and enterprise clients. Power and cooling systems will offer a 100% availability SLA by leveraging a “4 to make 3 design” to provide N+1 redundancy at the rack level.

“We are excited to be taking the next step forward in our North American expansion plans by building a new data center campus in a prime location in the Hillsboro market,” commented Ryuichi Matsuo, executive vice president for NTT Ltd.’s Global Data Centers division. “It’s a strategic decision to build a large data center campus in a network rich, business-friendly environment which also has renewable energy available.”

NTT’s Global Data Centers division segment in the Americas is the former RagingWire Data Centers business that NTT purchased full control of in 2018.
