The HiWire Consortium, a non-profit corporation supporting the advancement and adoption of HiWire Active Electrical Cable (AEC) technology, announced on June 17 that Celestica has joined the consortium.

“Our cloud service provider customers have increasing demand to deliver an open, flexible, reliable and scalable network,” said Randy Clark, senior director, Product Solutions at Celestica. “HiWire Active Electrical Cables are an innovative solution to connect the building blocks in Celestica’s modular platforms, enabling a new, comprehensive data center system solution architecture. We look forward to working with the other members of the HiWire Consortium to promote solutions that optimize system flexibility and drive maximum value creation for customers.”

HiWire Consortium facilitates the development of high-quality, compatible HiWire AEC devices and promotes end-user demand for HiWire AEC products through driving increased public awareness of the technology. Consortium members include Accton, Alpha Networks, Arrcus, Intel, Barefoot, BizLink, Broadcom, Cameo, Canaan, Celestica, Centec, Chelsio, Credo, Dell EMC, Delta, DriveNets, EDOM Technology, FoxLink, Innovium, Inventec, Juniper, Keysight Technologies, Microsoft, Quanta Computer, QCT, Senao Networks Inc., Spirent, Steligent, UfiSpace, UL, Wistron, WNC, and wiwynn.

“The data center network is constantly evolving to both reducing power and increasing data rates, but must do so reliably and cost effectively,” commented Stephen Cheng, general manager of Celestica Design Center. “Today, our customers can realize immediate cost savings by switching to HiWire AECs, which are similar in performance to fiber but offer improved reliability, lower cost and half power. For these reasons, we support the HiWire Consortium’s plug and play AEC interconnect standard."

HiWire Consortium notes that its AEC product was featured as part of the first live DDC (Distributed, Disaggregated Chassis) demonstration ever recorded and shown at the OCP Summit 2020.

“We enthusiastically welcome Celestica to the HiWire Consortium and are excited by the growing membership joining in our work to enable an ecosystem of truly plug & play Active Electrical Cables in network architecture applications,” said Sheng Huang, President of HiWire Consortium.

These Tower Tech XR cooling towers use evaporative cooling to remove heat generated within the data center by IT equipment. Composite cooling towers are more compact and significantly lighter than metal towers. They arrive at a data center site pre-built.
Data center designers shouldn’t sleep on the benefits of fiberglass construction materials.
