Prime Data Centers to add 9-MW Silicon Valley facility

July 28, 2021
The new site will be a mile away from Prime’s first data center in the region, another 9-MW facility also located in Santa Clara, CA that the company preleased to Cyxtera.

Wholesale data center developer and operator Prime Data Centers this month announced plans for construction of a new 9-MW facility.

The build-to-suit turnkey or powered shell facility will be constructed on Martin Avenue in Santa Clara, CA. Construction of the three-story data center campus should launch this year and complete during the second quarter of 2022, said the company.

The new data center, the company’s second in the Silicon Valley area, will offer approximately 80,000 square feet of purpose-built data center space and abundant connectivity options, according to Prime Data Centers.

The new facility's 9-MW power will be backed with N+1 redundancy, added the company.

“Santa Clara is one of the most desired data center locations globally due to its proximity to the vibrant and structurally important San Francisco Bay Area. In addition, the relatively affordable power rates from Silicon Valley Power (SVP) are very advantageous,” observed Jeff Barber, executive vice president, sales and business development at Prime.

Baker added, “Yet, it is difficult to find wholesale data center space in this area because of the scarcity and expense of available real estate and the difficulty of obtaining guarantees that the power is available to service the new capacity. Prime has such assurances from SVP in hand today.”

The new site will be a mile away from Prime’s first data center in the region, another 9-MW facility in Santa Clara that the company pre-leased to Cyxtera. Prime notes this new facility also is available for pre-lease.
