Global IPv6-native internet backbone operator Hurricane Electric announced in April that it has deployed a new Point of Presence (PoP) site at the CoreSite BO1 data center in Boston. The new site is Hurricane Electric’s second PoP in Boston. The facility is located at 70 Inner Belt Rd in Somerville, Mass.
The CoreSite BO1 serves a wide variety of sectors, offering access to leading network, cloud and IT providers. The facility has over 253,000 square feet of data center space and can support high-density, computer-intensive requirements, and can scale from cabinets and cages to private suites.
The new facility offers a 100% uptime SLA, supported by an operations team and 24x7x365 security.
As noted by a Hurricane Electric statement, "Boston is the leading life sciences hub and home to many other growing sectors. Additionally, Massachusetts boasts nearly 100 hospitals, as well as leading universities such as Harvard and MIT which are well known for their STEM programs. This new PoP will provide additional IP transit options and access to Hurricane Electric’s rich global network to growing organizations throughout the Greater Boston area."
In addition to providing increased network capacity through 100 Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports, Hurricane Electric’s global network offers over 20,000 BGP sessions with over 9,000 different networks via more than 250 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports employing a resilient fiber-optic topology.
“We’re excited to launch our second Point of Presence in Boston,” said Mike Leber, president, Hurricane Electric. “Hurricane Electric looks forward to offering Greater Boston’s bustling economy increased connectivity options to meet their demanding network requirements.”
