RTKL promotes Daren Shumate to VP

March 10, 2008 -- Daren Shumate, PE, LEED AP, has been promoted to vice president of engineering and architecture firm RTKL Associates Inc.

March 10, 2008 -- Daren Shumate, PE, LEED AP, has been promoted to vice president of engineering and architecture firm RTKL Associates Inc. Based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office, Shumate serves as director of the MEP Engineering studio, part of RTKL's Applied Technology Group.

"Daren's work covers a broad spectrum of federal projects, including data centers, office buildings and other high-performance facilities," comments R. Stephen Spinazzola P.E., vice president in charge of the RTKL's Applied Technology Group. "His ability to create highly secure, reliable environments for both data and people has been an asset to our practice. We're pleased to recognize his contributions with this promotion."

According to RTKL, with 20 years of experience in electrical engineering, Shumate has in-depth knowledge of power distribution, lighting design, life safety systems, security systems, telecommunications, power conditioning, controls and instrumentation.

As head of the firm's MEP Engineering sector, Shumate has managed diverse projects from concept through commissioning. Some of his recent work includes a 50,000-square-foot, high power density data center for Verizon Business in northern Virginia, a corporate data center park in west Texas, two data center upgrades for Equinix, and the consolidation of the 2.2 million-square-foot Food and Drug Administration headquarters in White Oak, Md.

Shumate is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also a LEED Accredited Professional. Shumate received a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering from Kansas State University in 1987.
