New dark fiber routes planned for 350K sq ft. Houston 2 data center

Zayo will extend dark fiber into Data Foundry's Houston 2 facility.

Data Foundry, a provider of data center colocation, disaster recovery, and managed services, says that Zayo Group, LLC, a global provider of bandwidth infrastructure services, will be one of the first carriers to provide services in Data Foundry's new Houston 2 Data Center. The 350,000-square-foot purpose-built data center is currently being constructed in North Houston's Greens Crossing district. The facility will open in the first quarter of 2015.

Zayo plans to build diverse dark fiber routes into the data center to offer dark fiber, wavelengths, Ethernet, and IP services to customers. Following the dark fiber build, Data Foundry will be able to offer its Houston customers connectivity to Zayo's fiber-optic network, which spans more than 77,000 route miles across the U.S. and Europe and connects to more than 14,000 on-net buildings.

"Zayo will be one of the first carriers to build into our new Houston 2 data center," said Edward Henigin, CTO, Data Foundry. "We will open the facility with multiple carrier options ready to service our customers on day one, and look forward to offering Zayo's services as one of these options."

Houston 2 will be Data Foundry's second and largest Houston data center and will reside on an 18-acre tract of land the company purchased in 2013. With capabilities for 60 MW of power, the facility will have a chilled water-cooling system, a 185-mph wind-rated structure, and will offer carrier-neutral network access to more than 10 on-net fiber carriers, the company says.

"Zayo's network provides secure, high-bandwidth connectivity to meet the demands of customers," said Zach Nebergall, vice president of dark fiber at Zayo Group. "Extending our fiber network into Data Foundry's Houston 2 facility expands our list of on-net buildings and provides Data Foundry customers access to our extensive network, which reaches 45 states and eight countries."
