802.11 access point for industrial mobile-to-mobile apps

May 3, 2012
B&B's Airborne 802.11b/g Access Point technology can be embedded by OEMs or operate as a standalone device in industrial networks.

An industrial-grade 802.11-based wireless access point from B&B Electronics for mobile-to-mobile applications is the first product brought to market after the company's acquisition of Quatech. Quatech's Airborne brand wireless networking devices feature WiFi technology that enables the networking of industrial mobile-to-mobile devices.

The new device, called the Airborne 802.11 b/g Access Point, is available as an embeddable module allowing original equipment manufacturers to WiFi-enable their own products; it is also available as an external Ethernet access point that provides the same functionality in a standalone device and also adds serial device server capability.

According to B&B, the Airborne Access Point allows equipped devices to become the centers of their own self-sufficient WiFi networks.

The standalone access point comes with an Ethernet port and two serial ports. "With Ethernet, WiFi and two serial ports all in one box, the APXG provides more port configuration and connectivity tools than other access points," B&B says. "It can be configured as a router or network bridge."
