The 1994 Atlantic hurricane season produced 7 named tropical cyclones and 3 hurricanes, a total below average. The most intense storm, Hurricane Florence, peaked as a Category 2 event with winds of 110 mph (180 km/h). Cabling Installation & Maintenance'sfirst year was such a financial and editorial success, the magazine went to monthly publication in 1994. The magazine’s second year saw the introduction Donna Ballast's popular "Ask Donna" question-and-answer column; the first Cabling Installer Tips’ section also appeared that summer. 1994 was also dubbed by the magazine as “the year of the Category 5 local area network (LAN) cable tester." More than half a dozen articles heralded the appearance of these and other nascent network test tools, explaining how these instruments worked and why to use them. And so the stormy fiber-versus-copper debate, still raging today, first found its way into the pages of Cabling Installation & Maintenance.
