10GBase-T developer Aquantia gets $21M in funding

June 8, 2011
Company says the funds will go to further developing LAN-on-motherboard and Ethernet switching technology.

Executives from Aquantia say the company will use the $21 million it recently raised in Series E funding to expand its development of 10GBase-T physical layer (PHY) technology. Specifically, the 40-nm 10GBase-T PHY will be the focus of further development. Aquantia first announced a 40-nm quad 10GBase-T product more than two years ago.

According to Aquantia board member Rohini Chakravarthy, demand for both LAN-on-motherboard and Ethernet switching products will grow this year.

This latest funding round included a new investor, LSI Corporation, as well as all Aquantia's existing investors. LSI's executive vice president and chief operating officer Jeff Richardson voiced confidence in Aquantia's technology-development capabilities, citing Aquantia-developed technologies' "innovative architecture and outstanding performance."
