Molex, Vitesse demo energy efficient 14 G data center connectivity at OFC/NFOEC

Demonstration features Vitesse’s VSC7224 quad adaptive channel extender and Molex’s FDR QSFP+ active optical cables.

At OFC/NFOEC 2012 (March 6-8) in Los Angeles, CA, Vitesse Semiconductor (NASDAQ: VTSS) and Molex (NASDAQ: MOLX) will present a joint technology demonstration of energy efficient 14 G connectivity for high density data center applications. Featuring Vitesse’s VSC7224 quad adaptive channel extender and Molex’s Fourteen Data Rate (FDR) Quad Small Form Factor (QSFP+) active optical cables (AOC), the demonstration will illustrate improved power consumption and thermal efficiency, combined with link robustness and aggregate bandwidth connectivity, for critical data center applications.

The companies say the combined connectivity platform solves the above data center issues at 20% lower power than competitive offerings. Capable of exceeding 14 G over extended reaches up to 4 km, the combined Molex-Vitesse devices are also electrically compliant with multiple protocols including: InfiniBand (SDR, DDR, QDR and FDR); Ethernet (10G and 40G); Fibre Channel (8GFC, 10GFC and 16GFC); and SAS (6G and 12G). Target applications including switches, routers, Host Bus Adapters, enterprise data centers, and high-performance computing and storage systems.
