Telecom-infrastructure manager to head new Emerson Network Power division
Jan. 12, 2010
Stephen C. Hassell heads the division that comprises the Aperture and Avocent businesses, which Emerson acquired in February 2008 and December 2009, respectively.
The Emerson Network Power business unit of Emerson has combined its Aperture and Avocent businesses as a new division the company says will focus on helping its data center customers manage their infrastructure. And it has named an experienced data center telecommunications-infrastructure manager to head the group. The new division, headquartered in Huntsville, AL, combines Avocent’s management systems division with Aperture’s infrastructure software.
Stephen C. Hassell leads the new division as president. He has been Emerson’s vice president and chief information officer since 2004. In that role, he was responsible for the company’s IT strategy including telecommunications infrastructure as well as hardware, software, and services. He is currently overseeing Emerson’s global consolidation of its more than 100 data centers, and recently oversaw the opening of the company’s $50M data center in St. Louis.
“It is appropriate that we are making this announcement in the first few business days of 2010, as we are ushering in a new era in data center management,” Hassell said. “The market is ripe for an infrastructure management solution capable of enhancing energy and operational efficiency while improving availability.”
