Eaton PDI PowerPak 2 EX Power Distribution Unit

Eaton recently launched the PDI PowerPak 2 EX power distribution unit (PDU). The PP2 is intended for mid-range applications in medium-sized, enterprise, and colocation data centers, with power ratings from 300 to 625 kVA.

“As data centers grow more complex and space becomes limited, operators seek solutions that can offer high power-density in a compact footprint,” Eaton said when it introduced the PDU. “Built on a modular design platform, the PP2 EX PDU delivers all the sophisticated capabilities expected from an Eaton floor-standing PDU in a flexible solution, offering insulation, voltage transformation, harmonic reduction and voltage regulation. With intelligent monitoring built-in, operators can control critical loads down to the individual breaker level.”

The company further described the PDI PowerPak 2 EX’s capabilities and benefits as follows.

Modular, flexible design: The PP2 EX PDU features what Eaton claims is the industry’s smallest footprint for mid-range applications, helping operators save floor space. “Its compartmentalized electrical components and true front access (TFA) provide safe and easy access while reducing space requirements,” Eaton noted. With configurable breaker options, solid busbar connections for enhanced reliability and universal top/bottom entry/exit, the PDU meets a range of needs.
Performance: The PP2 EX PDU incorporates “an ultra-efficient, data center-grade transformer for energy savings compliance with DOE 2016 standards and is equipped with UL-recognized 240-deg. Celsius class insulation for improved service life,” Eaton said. The standard and optional circuit breaker configurations provide both protection and flexibility for a number of applications.
Smart monitoring: Built-in Wavestar monitoring allows for real-time control of loads at the individual breaker level. The color touchscreen monitor provides intuitive local monitoring and integrates with Modbus SNMP or TCP/IP remote monitoring. The PP2 EX PDU is compatible with Eaton’s Power Xpert Meter 3000 series and PXR 25 smart circuit breakers.
