OpenAI and NVIDIA Form Strategic Partnership to Build 10-Gigawatt AI Infrastructure
10-Gigawatt AI Data Center Infrastructure Deployment
In a press release from NVIDIA, OpenAI and NVIDIA have announced plans for a strategic partnership to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems as part of OpenAI’s next-generation AI data center infrastructure. The agreement is a major step forward in expanding the compute power needed to train and operate future AI models.
“Everything starts with compute,” said Sam Altman, cofounder and CEO of OpenAI. “Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we’re building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.”
NVIDIA’s $100 Billion Investment
To support this goal, NVIDIA plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI over time as new systems come online. The first gigawatt is scheduled to deploy in the second half of 2026 on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform.
“We’ve been working closely with NVIDIA since the early days of OpenAI,” said Greg Brockman, cofounder and president of OpenAI. “We’ve utilized their platform to create AI systems that hundreds of millions of people use every day. We’re excited to deploy 10 gigawatts of compute with NVIDIA to push back the frontier of intelligence and scale the benefits of this technology to everyone.”
Strategic Partnership and Preferred Partner Role
OpenAI will work as a preferred partner for compute and networking, while NVIDIA will provide its hardware and platform capabilities. Not only does the partnership align with NVIDIA’s AI factory growth plans, it also complements other collaborations the companies have with Microsoft, SoftBank, Oracle, and Stargate partners.
