Plastics Pipe Institute expands, updates conduit handbook

A pivotal chapter has been updated in PPI's 'Handbook of Polyethylene Pipe.'

The Power & Communications Division of the Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc. (PPI - Irving, TX) has announced updates and an expansion to the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) Duct & Conduit chapter of the association’s "Handbook of Polyethylene Pipe."

The chapter expansion complements the handbook's more general chapters with information specific and unique to HDPE conduit. Increased to more than 70 pages, PPI contends the new chapter is now the industry’s most comprehensive introduction to conduit, as well as a peer-reviewed authoritative reference.

Published on PPI’s website as Chapter 14 of the PPI Handbook of Polyethylene Pipe, the new chapter is downloadable free of charge at https://plasticpipe.org/pdf/chapter14.pdf.

PPI is the major North American trade association representing the plastics pipe industry. The new chapter is one of many PPI documents related to the design and installation of HDPE conduit which are published as a service to the industry.

“This is PPI’s most downloaded document for HDPE Conduit, with more than 1,000 downloads a month,” explained Patrick Vibien, P., Eng., director of engineering for the PCD. “The division undertook a complete overhaul of the document to bring it up-to-date and include information on areas not previously covered. This new information, has been written, reviewed and vetted by our volunteer members who have a vast amount of experience and professional knowledge.”

PPI adds that the revamped Chapter 14 on Duct & Conduit covers the products available, materials, standards and specifications, design considerations, sizing, conduit installation, cable installation, joining methods and special applications. It also provides a list of additional educational and reference materials available from PPI free of charge.

“With more than 25 figures and 10 tables, this chapter contains the most comprehensive overview of HDPE conduit, enabling users to understand the products and how best to use them,” Vibien continued. “It also functions as the starting point to answer specific day-to-day questions when designing and working with HDPE conduit.”
