Fidium furthers FTTH builds in Maine with help from Connect Maine Authority

April 18, 2022
By year’s end, Fidium Fiber services will be available to more than 150,000 homes in the state, noted parent company Consolidated Communications.

Consolidated Communications subsidiary Fidium Fiber this month announced that 34,000 homes in Bangor, Portland, Rockland and South Portland, Maine can now pre-order its fiber-optic internet service, boasting gigabit speeds without data caps, contracts or required bundles. By year’s end, Fidium will be available to more than 150,000 homes in the state, noted the broadband service provider.

In February, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded $18.3 million in grants to the Connect Maine Authority, which will partially fund Consolidated bringing Fidium to more than 22,000 underserved addresses in some of Maine’s most rural areas in Farmington, Rangeley and the Blue Hill Peninsula.

“Consolidated Communications has been an important and collaborative partner in our work to expand connectivity options across our state, particularly in rural areas,” said Maine Governor Janet Mills. “This is great news for Maine, and I applaud them for this initiative, which will advance our work of connecting more homes and small businesses to the high-speed Internet people need.”

Since launching, a Fidium statement claimed its Maine customers "are pleased with the easy, hassle-free installation with text updates, experienced technical support, and compassionate customer service teams."

Fidium Fiber’s gigabit internet service is available for $70 per month, including installation and whole-home WiFi. To ensure customers get the best online experience, the company's Attune WiFi whole-home management app provides capabilities network visibility, time-of-day access control, age-appropriate content settings, speed tests etc.

“Fidium will be Maine’s largest fiber-to-the-home provider, and I’m thrilled to finally bring the Fidium experience here,” commented Erik Garr, president of consumer and small business for Consolidated Communications.
