Battery-powered heated work jacket eases cold-weather field installations

For installers braving frigid weather elements on a daily basis, sometimes layering just won't cut it.

Ergodyne (St. Paul, MN) announced an expansion of its CORE Performance Work Wear Outer Layer Series to include its model 6490 heated jacket with removable sleeves.

Featuring 3 heat settings (low, medium, and high) and the ability to turn the jacket into a vest via removable sleeves, the model 6490 heated jacket is designed to be used in any temperature – from chilly to subzero. The jacket's 7.4V, 5200 MAH Lithium Ion battery is rechargeable. The battery provides up to 9 hours of continuous heat on the low setting, 5 hours on medium, and 3 hours on high. Two heating zones located on the chest and back deliver heat to the body's core regions.

"For workers braving the frigid elements on a daily basis, sometimes layering just won't cut it," said Tom Votel, president and CEO, Ergodyne. "We've created a jacket that not only heats the body, it is comfortable, convenient, and easy to use – exactly how a jacket should be."

A pre-heat option (red blinking button) enables increased warm-up time. An easy-touch controller button allows the wearer to navigate through the jacket's heat settings and the pre-heat option. With three pockets plus a convenient battery holder pocket with zipper closure, the jacket also includes an extension wire, allowing it to be heated from an alternative power source including, but not limited to, tool batteries.

Replaceable parts available from Ergodyne include a model 6490B battery and 6490W wall charger. As an optional accessory the 6490C cigarette-lighter converter allows the jacket to be heated without battery from a vehicle's dashboard. Other jacket features include a water and wind resistant outer shell; a soft, warm fleece lining, and a drawstring waist.

"Adding a heated jacket to our growing cold stress collection was a no brainer," said Adria Hardy, product manager for Ergodyne. "The 6490 heated jacket comes standard with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, battery wall charger, and adapter extension wire – everything you need to stay protected in the coldest of temps."
