Q: As installers of voice, data and video network cabling throughout the United States, we always install cabling according to the TIA standards. However, we also want to abide by all local low-voltage regulations, including licensing and permit requirements. Are you aware of any agency or organization that can provide local information on such requirements?

A: This is a great idea, but I cannot find a government agency that can provide nationwide requirements. When I asked Ron Provost, BICSI`s governmental relations representative, if he was aware of any database, he said that BICSI (Tampa, FL) is attempting to compile a database of these regulations. Until that is completed, you should contact the Electrical Board in the state where you are working to obtain this information. And, because many municipalities have instituted permit and inspection regulations, you should also contact the local government.
