June 3, 2009--Vytran's PSX-3000 portable, configurable, optical-fiber splicing workstation is designed for volume manufacturing and service applications in markets such as fiber laser, research,
and medical. It can be used by a fiber component manufacturer in volume production, by a fiber laser integrator for placing the components into systems, and by a service team for maintaining the systems at their installation site.

PSX-3000 uses proprietary Graphite Filament Fusion technology designed to produce clean, low-loss splices in standard and large mode area (LMA) double-clad fibers. PSX-3000 also uses Vytran's True Core Imaging and Active Alignment technology for precise core alignment and splice loss determination. A fire polishing process enhances splice strength, while a Windows-based interface provides complete process configuration, and control and a database records all splicing data.

PSX-3000 can be set up as a simple splicer or as an integrated system with any combination of cleave, clean, splice and recoat capabilities. The system's optional large diameter fiber cleaver is automated and programmable, and is designed to produce cleaves with mirror-quality end-face finishes. It can also be equipped with an ultrasonic cleaner for non-contact cleaning of the stripped fiber used for high-strength and high-power applications.
