Each FTU provides a transition point between the fiber infrastructure and fiber jumpers connected to servers, computers, or other network electronics. Available in wall-mount and rack-mount varieties, the FTUs are typically used in telecommunications closets to organize fibers for termination. Wall-mount FTUs are cabinet enclosures fabricated in 14- or 16-gauge cold-rolled steel and are available with 24 or 48 connector ports. They feature a keylocked area for installation and maintenance and a fastened area for end-user entry. The wall-mount unit accommodates cables up to 2 inches in diameter. The rack-mount version attaches to standard 19- or 23-inch equipment racks and is available in five different sizes, offering capacity ranging from 24 to 144 fibers.
