A Sleeve System enables installation of a cable outlet within a firewall or smoke wall. The system consists of a 6-inch-square metal plate with a 1-inch EMT sleeve (6 inches long) welded at a 45° angle to the plate. The plate has four "barbs" protruding from the back to anchor the sleeve to the wall. The leading edge of the sleeve is sharpened to allow the system to cut its own hole in drywall. To operate, drive the membrane penetrator into the drywall above the ceiling grid and directly over the cable outlet. Cables should be supported within 24 inches from the installed penetrator. An inch thickness of STI SpecSeal Series 100 caulk or SpecSeal putty placed in the end of the sleeve system completes the installation. Penetrators cost $14.95 each.
