The 6.6-pound portable unit creates permanent splices in singlemode, multimode, and dispersion-shifted fiber. Typical splice losses are 0.06 decibel for identical singlemode fiber and 0.03 dB for identical multimode fiber. Splices are completed in 25 seconds, after which the splicer inspects and measures the quality of the finished splice.
