The OnQ Structured Wiring System for residential applications lets homeowners control security, energy, and lighting through push-button technology or remote access via a touch-tone telephone. The system includes enclosures; telecommunications-connection modules; video-connection modules; Ethernet network- connection modules; a 10Base-T Ethernet hub; an audio-connection module; wall outlets; Category 3 unshielded twisted-pair (utp) cable, Category 5 utp, and RG-6 coaxial cable; and the Home Management System (hms). The hms includes keypads, thermostats, temperature sensors, and expansion accessories, and is available with either basic or enhanced features and capabilities.
The network-connection modules included provide connectivity for four to eight computers or peripherals. Outlets are available in 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 6-jack configurations and mount in standard electrical boxes. The jacks are wired in the T568A configuration. The Category 3 cabling is intended for lighting control, while the Category 5 cable handles voice and data traffic. The coaxial cable is used for video applications.
