Oct. 12, 2005 - The series, including the first installment on safety, aims to streamline the problem-solving process.

AFCOM has launched its Data Center Smart Tools handbook series.

AFCOM launched the series, starting with the first installment, Data Center Safety, at the Data Center World Conference in Chicago I.L.

"The goal of the Smart Tools initiative is to help busy data center professionals streamline their problem-solving process by consolidating industry guidelines, standards, resource links, checklist and best practices into full-color, easy-to-use handbooks," says Jill Eckhaus, AFCOM president. "We're excited to bring this resource to market and deliver on AFCOM's mission to be the most comprehensive and affective resource working with the data center community."

The Data Center Smart Tools handbook is available to AFCOM members, in print and through the AFCOM Web site, free of charge. It will address specific issues and challenges inherent to data center management. Future installments will cover topics such as facilities management, vendor relations, best practices and more.

"What makes the series revolutionary is that all of the content will be researched and generated by experienced and respected data center managers and industry analysts," says Eckhaus. "Anyone using the handbooks can be assured that the content has been peer-reviewed and battle-tested."

"The Data Center Safety handbook was designed by data center professionals for data center professionals," adds Ray Heath, a member of the series editorial team. "Using a high-level informational outline format, any individual responsible for data center safety can use this resource as a starting point for pinpointing critical areas that should be considered when developing a data center safety program."

AFCOM, an association for data center professionals, is based in Orange, C.A. For more information visit www.afcom.com.
