Acquisition of Pacific 17 puts AFL into wireless market

Alcoa has acquired majority ownership of Pacific 17, a wireless service company engaged in the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of wireless sites and multi-site networks. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. AFL Telecommunications (www.afltelecommunications.com), a part of Alcoa Fujikura Ltd., will manage Pacific 17.

Based in San Diego, Pacific 17 has 250 employees with operating locations in Atlanta, Birmingham, Chicago, Orlando, and Puerto Rico.

"AFL Telecommunications has been successful in building a customer-focused service organization for central office, broadband, and outside plant applications," said Frank Larence, president of AFL Telecommunications. "With the acquisition of Pacific 17, we expect to achieve a similar leadership position for providing high-performance services to the wireless market as well."
