Berk-Tek expands CMP-50 UTP offerings

June 20, 2002
June 20, 2002--The cable-maker is now shipping limited-combustible cables that meet Category 3 through Category 6 specifications.

Berk-Tek (www.berktek.com), a Nexans company, has expanded its offering of limited-combustible-rated (CMP-50) unshielded twisted-pair cables to include performance from Category 3 to Category 6. Most recently, the company made its LANmark-1000 (Category 6) and LANmark-2000 ("better than Category 6") products available in CMP-50 versions.

Berk-Tek said its copper products business manager Dan Kennefick anticipates changes to fire safety standards, based on conversations with members of the NFPA-90A Group-the group within the National Fire Protection Agency responsible for fire safety and installation practices for heating and ventilating equipment.

"We expect changes that will call for further tightening of fire-safety standards in the plenum space," Kennefick said.

Less than a year ago, Berk-Tek launched its CMP-50-rated LANmark-350 (Category 5e), Hyper Plus 5e (Category 5) and Category 3 cables.

Berk-Tek says all its limited-combustible products are available for immediate shipment.
