Fiber-optic line hacks now take only minutes

Dec. 6, 2016

In today's world, hackers can easily obtain tools to tap into a fiber-optic line, what with a host of freely available YouTube videos that explain exactly how to do it. From the company's R&D lab in Ottawa, Canada, Ciena's Patrick Scully here demonstrates how simple it is to steal massive amounts of data by quickly and easily tapping a fiber-optic cable, and explains how optical encryption can be used to protect against this threat, ensuring the security of all transmitted data.
