Pirelli Cables and Systems North America (Columbia, SC; www.pirelli.com) plans to invest $83 million to expand its fiber optic cable manufacturing capacity in Lexington County, SC, adding an estimated 260 jobs to the work force. The Lexington plant is already the company's largest manufacturing facility, producing a range of fiber optic cable products for the communications industry. The addition at Lexington County marks Pirelli's sixth and largest expansion since 1986. Pirelli says the larger plant will expand manufacturing capacity and support rapid product developments in new market segments.
