Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group (www.lucent.com/micro) introduced Active Ethernet, a new feature that provides power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities for the entire ORiNOCO (www.lucent.com/orinoco) product line of enterprise, outdoor, and public area wireless networking equipment. System installers now only have to run a single Ethernet cable to each Access Point base station, instead of separate power and data cables when using Active Ethernet. Dedicated AC power lines to individual access points and base stations are no longer required.
