TIA publishes protocol bulletin

Dec. 1, 2003
Dec. 1, 2003 - Document is a revision of TSB-39-A.

The Telecommunication Industry Association has published a new telecommunications systems bulletin, Message Type Assignments for the Extended Protocol Facility of TIA-136, TIA-691 and TIA/EIA/IS-2000, TSB-39-B.

The document is a revision of TSB-39-A.

Revision C of EIA/IS-3 introduced the facility of "extended protocol" where neither the coding nor use of the message type was standardized. The extended facility usage was standardized by TIA-691 and is also indirectly referenced by TIA/EIA/IS-2000.6. In addition, the extended protocol facility allowed for proprietary implementations through the reservation of message type codes.

To avoid confusion resulting from multiple assignments, the committee recognized the need to provide a single master list of the message type codes that have been registered for the analog air interface. Manufacturers or others wishing to register non-standardized use of particular message type codes should refer to section three of this document.

TSB-39-B was created by TIA TR-45 Committee on Mobile and Personal Communication Systems and released in August. A bulletin is not a standard, but rather, contains technical material that may be valuable to industry and users.

The TIA is based in Arlington, VA. For more information visit www.tiaonline.org.
