NEC Corp. completes construction of submarine optical cable network

NEC Corp. has successfully completed the construction of a new submarine optical cable network, named Thailand -Indonesia - Singapore Cable Network.

The network is for a consortium formed by CAT Telecom Public Company Ltd. of Thailand, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk of Indonesia and Singapore Telecommunications Limited of Singapore.

The new 1,100 km submarine network, linking Songkhla, Thailand, Batam, Indonesia and Changi, Singapore can provide customers with enhanced transmission of international broadband traffic. It will use NEC's submarine repeatered and repeaterless DWDM technologies with an equipped capacity of 30 Gigabits per second upgradeable up to 320Gbit/s, capable of handling traffic for about 3,840,000 telephone circuits.

NEC is a system supplier/integrator, supplying a number of major submarine cable systems, including China-US and Japan-US. In addition, the company has recently been awarded a supply contract for Alaska United Fiber System.
