AlphaGary Corporation (www.alphagary.com) and DuPont Fluoroproducts (www.dupont.com) announced they have signed a joint development agreement to develop and commercialize new fluoropolymer compounds for data cable applications.
According to the agreement, the companies will combine the DuPont patented fluoropolymer technology with AlphaGary's compounding expertise to develop new products aimed at the North American plenum and limited combustible duct cable market, as well as the European Construction Products Directive (CPD) Class A & B cable, and emerging Chinese high-performance data cable markets. The companies also hope to participate in the advancement of codes and standards for cabling products in all regions.
Specifically, the joint development agreement will focus on developing and commercializing new products for jacketing, insulation/buffers, and crosswebs used in Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP), Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) coaxial, fire alarm, and fiber optic cable applications.
"Fluoropolymers represent the best available technology for electrical performance and fire safety," said Patrick Lindner, global business manager - data communications, for DuPont Fluoroproducts. "We believe that, by combining those inherent material qualities with AlphaGary's compounding technologies, we can develop differentiated, next generation products that create technical advances for end users, perhaps in the form of increased fire safety or bandwidth capabilities."
