Redundant Networks chooses Belden, citing safety and speed requirements
Belden Electronics Division (www.belden.com) recently announced that Redundant Networks chose its DataTwist 350 limited-combustible (LC) cable for its new data-hosting operations center in Reno, NV.
"Redundant needed to upgrades its facility/system to deliver more bandwidth to its customers for both current and future applications, plus like any other mission-critical facility it was looking for a failsafe operating environment," Belden said in an announcement of the project. "Additionally, the company was looking at a rather ambitious construction timetable when they discovered that the local fire department had just issues some tough new guidelines for cabling installation; these guidelines included a requirement for an under-the-floor sprinkler system if standard CMP data cables were installed. The sprinkler system would have been a particularly costly addition to the installation, plus it would have jeopardized Redundant's critical construction deadlines."
The choice of Belden's DataTwist 350 LC Category 5e cable eliminated the need for the under-the-floor sprinkler system, while also meeting all fire code requirements.
According to Janice Fetzer, Redundant's vice president of operations, "The cable meets the fire safety requirements to a tee and, in addition, it delivers the high level of performance we need to support our clients' increasingly sophisticated applications." She adds that owing to the nature of their business they must always be "a step ahead" in technology, "and that is what we found with Belden's DataTwist 350 cable with bonded pairs."
Belden's patented bonded-pair technology refers to a manufacturing process that bonds the conductor of the pairs along the entire length of the cable. Belden says the process assures excellent electrical performance all the way down the line, and the construction provides after-installation benefits by eliminating the potential for performance-robbing conductor gaps. Unbonded pair cables frequently gap during the rigors of installation, Belden says.
