As digital video transmissions continue to replace analog transmissions, digital Direct to Home (DTH) and digital cable TV services are the largest competitors to provide digital television services. According to Cahners In-Stat Group (www.instat.com), DTH will continue to outpace cable television over the next several years. By the end of 2004, there will be 95 million digital direct broadcast satellite (DBS) subscribers and 48 million digital cable subscribers worldwide.
