December 4, 2008 -- JDSU has unveiled its SmartClass E1/Datacom, a handheld tester for the installation and commissioning of E1 and Datacom circuits and network elements used extensively worldwide for information and data transfer from one location to another. The company says the SmartClass E1/Datacom features a large, easy-to-read color screen and auto configuration feature, making it suitable for Tier 1 field technicians supporting large-scale deployments.
Key features of the SmartClass E1/Datacom include interoperability with PC software so that results can be downloaded for report preparation and a user interface that is available in multiple languages. Included with each SmartClass E1/Datacom are dual E1 ports for bi-directional monitoring and troubleshooting of E1 links, and a Datacom port with a variety of optional test cables to suit customer needs. The lightweight, rugged tester uses off-the-shelf "AA" batteries.
"JDSU designed its SmartClass testers to address the full range of requirements for network installers today," says Jim Nerschook, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "The SmartClass E1/Datacom responds to the service turn-up and troubleshooting challenges of both operators and contractors that require an easy-to-use tool for their field technicians."
JDSU notes that the SmartClass E1/Datacom offers advanced test applications including MFC-R2 signaling test, VT-100 terminal emulation and remote control of the unit using a command line interface, providing even less-experienced technicians with a powerful and easy-to-use E1/Datacom installation, maintenance and test device.
