October 31, 2008 -- BICSI has combined its technical publications into a package deal, with the introduction of the BICSI Members-Only Resource Library.

According to the professional association, with this value-priced offer through membership, ITS professionals can gain instant access to the information they need to perform the proper procedures in designing and installing the infrastructure that supports the transportation of information in commercial building projects.

The BICSI library includes seven technical manuals plus the ITS dictionary. Descriptions, according to BISCI, are as follows:

Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM), 11th edition: Billed as "the ultimate resource in telecommunications distribution design," the manual contains internationally accepted industry guidelines that are researched and written by ITS experts. It is vendor neutral and written to global best practices with the latest codes and standards listed in a comprehensive appendix.

Network Design Reference Manual (NDRM), 6th edition: The manual covers the fundamentals of network architecture, connectivity, communications and administration. Design examples are also provided for departmental, backbone, wide-area and remote-access networking.

Outside Plant Design Reference Manual (OSPDRM), 4th edition: The manual covers the fundamentals of cabling infrastructure, pathways and spaces, splicing hardware, right-of-way, and grounding, bonding and protection. It is extremely beneficial to those designers with limited experience overbuilding existing infrastructure.

Information Transport Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM), 5th edition: With ITS forming the new fourth utility and the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth, the proper installation of copper and optical fiber systems has become paramount. This manual provides cabling installers around the world with access to the best practices for ensuring a solid foundation of the ITS requirements of their clients.

Wireless Design Reference Manual (WDRM), 3rd edition: Showing ITS professionals how to plan, design and implement a wide spectrum of wireless design projects, the manual provides critical information on a variety of topics, with expanded information on WiMAX, Wi-Fi and distributed antenna systems (DASs). It also introduces the application of design best practices in 4G technology, the next complete evolution in wireless communications providing a comprehensive IP solution for voice, data and multimedia.

Electronic Safety and Security Design Reference Manual (ESSDRM), 1st edition: Written by industry subject matter experts, including several professional engineers (PEs) and certified protection professionals (CPPs), this manual has become the foundation document for those who seek the knowledge to become specialists in electronic safety and security design issues.

AV Design Reference Manual (AVDRM), 1st edition: Partnering with InfoComm International, the trade association of the professional audio visual (AV) and information communications industries, BICSI offers a unique and encompassing AV design reference tool that includes information from InfoComm's extensive database of training materials, and provides BICSI's ITS designers and installers with clear insight on how AV systems are assembled.

BICSI ITS Dictionary, 3rd edition: An quick reference guide to aid the ITS professional in the field, in the office and in the classroom, the Dictionary includes a thorough collection of internationally recognized terms, acronyms, abbreviations, symbols and resources compiled from all of BICSI's technical manuals, in addition to all standards and codes.

Priced in U.S. dollars, the BICSI Resource Library is available in a set of hardcover binders or CD-ROMs for $1,029, providing a savings of $213. The Resource Library Combo (a set of manuals and CD-ROMs) is $1,675, reflecting a savings of $349, according to BICSI. However, the association notes that the greatest value in purchasing the Resource Library comes with shipping rates; there is a flat rate of $60 per library package for standard U.S. shipping and only $40 per additional library package ordered.

"As a consultant, it is vital for me to have the most relevant reference tools, and BICSI manuals help me accomplish the goals for my clients' projects," offers James Rounsville, RCDD, president and CEO of Network Management Corp. in North Highlands, CA. "And secondly, the deal is just too good to pass up."

"BICSI publications are the standard of knowledge in the ITS industry," adds Jay Needleman, RCDD, OSP, field operations manager of information technology at Northwestern University. "Once I heard about this deal, I felt it was important to have a complete set of up-to-date reference materials easily accessible for all members of my team."
