April 16, 2008 -- Bomar Interconnect Products has added a shielded version of its Category 6 EZ-RJ45 (Part # 300668SEZ) connector, as well as a snagless boot (Part # CBX600EZ). The company says the connector's design is specifically engineered to simplify twisted pair terminations.
According to the company, the one-piece design has no bars or liners, which enables technicians to simply slide the wire through the connector and out the front, making it easy to visually confirm the wiring pinout prior to crimping. To further optimize electrical performance, the technician is able to firmly pull the connector over the cable jacket and seat it securely in the rear of the connector to minimize the distance between the wire twists and contacts. Bomar says the EZ Series accepts both solid and stranded wire for faster terminations with reduced scrap.
The shielded connector exceeds the Cat 6 performance requirements per TIA/EIA-568-B when used in conjunction with a standard strain relief boot, or the new snagless boot. The connector is therefore suited for the range of high-speed residential, telecommunications, and broadband communications applications where better insertion loss, near end crosstalk (NEXT), return loss and equal level far end crosstalk (ELFEXT) are required.
In addition to preventing cable retraction snags, the snagless boot provides an extended release mechanism for the connector and supplementary strain relief. The boots are installed prior to crimping and become permanently affixed to the connectors. They can be crimped with a standard tool, then trimmed with a cutter or small utility knife, or with Bomar's crimp tool (Part # BD45000), which crimps and trims the exposed conductors in one operation to make a uniform and positive crimp. The same tool also crimps and trims Bomar's unshielded Cat 5 and 5e EZ-RJ45 connectors in one cycle.
The FCC compliant, UL rated Cat 6 EZ-RJ45 connector features 50 micro inch gold plating. Distributor pricing for the connectors is $2.47 each in quantities of 100; snagless boots are priced at $0.53 each in quantities of 100. For more information, click here.
