IMC adds new PoE, PoE+ multi-port fiber to copper converters

April 4, 2012
IMC's Giga-McBasic media converters extend 10/100/1000 Mbps copper networks over fiber up to 100 km, delivering data and power to remote devices over standard Cat 5 cable.

At the FOSE 2012 government security expo in Washington, DC, IMC Networks expanded its Power over Ethernet product line with the launch of its PoE and PoE+ Giga-McBasic media converters. The Giga-McBasic converters extend 10/100/1000 Mbps copper networks over fiber up to a distance of 100 km, supporting remote devices over standard Cat 5 cable. Employing IEEE 802.3af (PoE) and 802.3at (PoE+) standard-compliant technology, the new converters deliver data and power of 15.4 Watts and 25.5 Watts, respectively, to all compatible PoE and high-power PoE+ devices.

PoE and PoE+ supported hardware such as Pan-Tilt-Zoom security cameras, WiFi access points, and IP video phones and displays are just a few of the devices that can be driven by the PoE and PoE+ Giga-McBasic line, notes IMC. Multiple configurations make the compact new Gigabit converters ideal for installations inside buildings where PoE is required to power Ethernet devices. “Using our PoE and PoE+ devices, [customers] will save money, since they don’t need to install electrical outlets at locations where their compatible PTZ cameras, 802.11n access points, etc. are located. This also makes the installations faster and easier,” comments Juan Sanchez, technical sales engineer at IMC Networks.

The PoE Giga-McBasic and PoE+ GigaMcBasic are scheduled to ship in Q2. Model 852-10811 lists for $460 and 852-10911 lists for $530, respectively. The products are available through IMC Networks’ distributors.
