NVR targets entry-level IP surveillance environments

DVTEL's Meridian network video recorder provides for easy installation and system management.

At the recent IFSEC 2012 trade show, IP video surveillance technology supplier DVTEL (Birmingham, UK) unveiled its Meridian network video recorder (NVR), a plug-and-play networked recording appliance that "practically self-installs," claims the company.

The Meridian NVR is billed as providing resellers and users with ease of installation and management, while allowing for "dramatic cost reduction in megapixel video deployments." Available in four and 16-port models, the Meridian NVRs combine the functions of a network video recorder, including high-powered Ethernet switch, automatic set-up features and video management software, into a single appliance.

According to the company, the NVR automatically delivers power via PoE and IP addresses, configures cameras for motion detection, and starts recording without user intervention. Standalone units are suitable for use in surveillance environments of up to 24 cameras. Multiple units can be set up within a network to build a larger system to meet expanding security requirements.

“We believe there is a great opportunity to address the needs of the small- to medium-sized business market with a video management system that delivers quick deployment, reduced maintenance costs and ease of installation,” commented Yoav Stern, president and CEO, DVTEL. “Meridian enables installers with basic IT expertise to deploy a full-featured IP video solution in less time than is required to deploy an analog system.”

Meridian offers digital zoom, camera tours, PTZ control and intelligent video searches to quickly retrieve captured video through thumbnail and event searches. The Meridian NVR offers up to 6 GB of internal storage that can be extended through an external eSATA connection. The plug-and-play system provides flexible management connections through a fiber or copper Gigabit uplink. Meridian is compatible with DVTEL’s Quasar IP camera line and supports third-party cameras from Axis Communications.

“With Meridian, we are leveraging our expertise in enterprise-class systems to deliver solutions to the small and midsized market that feature ease of deployment in both installation and management. In doing so, we are helping our resellers tap into new markets and build revenue opportunities,” continued DVTEL's Stern. “Meridian offers automatic plug-and-play operation that allows integrators and dealers to dramatically reduce installation times so they can focus their attention on providing a high-level of support to their customers.”
