The custom-made cords are available with singlemode or multimode fiber, in lengths up to 500 feet, with a variety of connector options.

JEM Electronics has introduced a line of armored fiber-optic patch cords designed for use in aerospace, automotive, industrial, medical, and military applications.

“JEM Armored Fiber Optic Patch Cords are designed to withstand twisting, kinking, crushing, and prevent rodent damage in applications where traditional fiber-optic patch cables may fail during installation and operation,” the company said when announcing the cords. They contain stainless-steel armored flexible tubing inside the outer jacket and are available with 9/125-micron (singlemode) as well as 50/125-micron and 62.5/125-micron multimode fiber. JEM will produce the cords in custom lengths up to 500 meters.

The cords are available with SC, ST, MT-RJ, FC, MU, E2000, SUS, and other connector types. JEM states insertion loss is less than or equal to 0.2 dB, return loss greater than or equal to 55 dB, and repeatability less than or equal to 0.2 dB for singlemode PC interfaces.
