October 26, 2006 -- Gepco International, a manufacturer and distributor of professional-quality audio and video cables, has introduced its 4.5" single-channel hybrid fiber breakout box.

The portable SMPTE 304M hybrid fiber to ST breakout box features a reduced footprint. Each hybrid connector breaks out to two ST female connectors on a recessed, protective metal top plate with optional electrical connectors. According to the company, the breakout of the hybrid connector to discrete, industry-standard optical and electrical components allows for an HD camera to ccu interconnection over existing fiber tie-lines in facilities where hybrid fiber interconnects may not be present. Additionally, the breakout box can be utilized for Lemo terminated hybrid fiber cables to standard ST fiber connectors.

"As HD becomes the standard for television transmission, facilities need products that allow them to easily incorporate HD into their existing technologies," explains Scott Fehl, Gepco's director of marketing. "Our hybrid fiber breakout box allows for the transmission of HD signals to be seamlessly integrated into current interconnect set-ups."

The product's optical components feature machine-polished ceramic ferules and ceramic sleeves for superior optical alignment and low loss. The rugged chassis is constructed from heavy gauge anodized aluminum for use in remote production environments. The product also features replaceable fiber jumpers and metal dust caps.

In addition to the standard configuration, the company's 4.5" HBB breakout box is also available with XLR or 5-pin AMP connectors that are hard-wired to the power and/or signal components of the SMPTE hybrid connectors.
