Windy City Wire (Chicago, IL) recently unveiled its SmartWire system design tool - a service two years in the making that incorporates patent pending technology, according to the company. The company says the tool allows one person to design and create a low voltage installation scheme "in minutes."

According to the company, the tool enables users to identify applications, apply devices, pick cables, identify locations, and create a marking and labeling scheme just by clicking on a website. The company's sales staff then creates a job plan for a client; clients can also build their own job plans at their convenience.

When an order is made using the system design tool, all cable boxes and spools arrive with a scheme to identify the applications, devices, locations, and addresses needed to complete each individual job. The tool also allows customers to create customized labels.

Windy City Wire's flagship product is the "SmartWire," a low-voltage wire and cable product that has the qualities of a tape measure, tester, toner, and label maker. The company serves a range of system contractors including those in the markets for security, access control, CCTV, fire alarm, and home automation.
