Telescent's fiber-optic union adapters ensure network reliabilty

May 17, 2006
May 17, 2006 -- The internally shielded SureConnect adapters protect difficult-to-access fiber-optic terminations, such as those within a wall plenum or patch panel.

Fiber-optic equipment provider Telescent has introduced its SureConnect family of internally shielded fiber-optic union adapters, designed to enhance the reliability and reduce the maintenance cost of access networks.

The polished endfaces of connectorized fiber-optic cables are prone to damage from contamination and mishandling. Existing fiber-optic union adapters do not guard against the transfer of damage from one connectorized endface to another, because the two cable endfaces are in physical contact with one another inside the union adapter housing.

To eliminate this risk, Telescent has developed the patent-pending SureConnect family of internally shielded union adapters, which include an internal length of optical fiber that prevents direct physical contact of the polished cable ends to one another. This functionality is achieved without compromising optical performance, says the company.

The isolated union adapter shields difficult-to-access fiber-optic terminations, such as those within a wall plenum or patch panel, from damage. Moreover, the adapters provide Polished Surface Damage (PSD) protection, the optical analog of ESD protection in electronics.
